A part of the Division of Environmental Health and Protection, the Tanning Centers program regulates the health and safety issues surrounding tanning beds in St. Charles County. The division inspects public tanning facilities to verify their safe and sanitary operation.
There are risks associated with overexposure to ultraviolet light from tanning beds and booths, as there are with overexposure to sunlight. Prior to using these services, speak with the tanning facility staff, who will advise you about the maximum exposure time for the particular device you will use, the operation of emergency shut-off controls, the requirement for protective eye wear and the location of personal hygiene facilities. Tanning bed surfaces and protective eye wear must be sanitized between uses.
