The mission of the St. Charles County Department of Corrections is to:

  1. 1.Protect the citizens of St. Charles County.
  2. 2. Maintain a close working relationship with other criminal justice agencies of this County, to enhance the overall law enforcement effort.
  3. 3. Provide secure correctional institutions, and trained staff personnel, capable of providing for the safe and humane custody, control and security of all incarcerated personnel held by the SCCDOC facility.
  4. 4. Enforce the general criminal laws of the State of Missouri and the ordinances of St. Charles County.

  4. Meet both the legally mandated and the nationally recognized correctional standards for adult correctional/detention facilities and programs.

Objectives

  1. Prevent and detect crime, and enforce the general criminal laws of the State of Missouri and the ordinances of St. Charles County.
  2. Maintain staffing levels adequate to insure that security and order are maintained at all times.
  3. Provide quality leadership, training and equipment to Department of Corrections personnel in support of their mission accomplishment.
  4. Provide a quality work place based on respect, dignity, equity and fairness, and free of discrimination or harassment of any kind.
  5. Maintain a safe and secure environment in which inmates/detainees can be held.
  6. Maintain a safe and secure working environment for Department of Corrections personnel.
  7. prompt and accurate intake/release of inmates/detainees; classify inmate/detainees based on offense and known criminal background; make housing unit/cell assignments based on classification system.
  8. Provide viable short-term sentencing alternatives to the courts.
  9. Maintain inmate/detainee population at levels adequate to prevent/control overcrowding.
  10. Meet nationally recognized standards regarding space allocation, medical services, food services, recreation, programs, protection of information and inmate/detainee access to the legal system.
