Local Highway, Route Construction and Closure Information from MoDOT
Later this week crews are scheduled to open the new southbound Route 61 exit and entrance ramps at Route P/Peine Road. Weather permitting, the ramps will open on Thursday, Dec. 13. When the new exit and entrance ramps open, the turn to and from Champions Lane will be permanently closed.
The opening of the ramps is the latest milestone in the project to improve safety along Route 61. In addition to the new overpass to serve Route P and Peine Road, the crossovers at Grothe Road and at both Granville Drives will be closed and merging and turning lanes will also be extended. The project is expected to be completed next summer. For more information on the project go to http://www.modot.org/stlouis/major_projects/Route61SafetyProject.htm.
Later this week, the new westbound I-70 exit to Route K in St. Charles County will open to traffic. The new ramp will also allow drivers to access the north outer road (East Terra Lane). When the new ramp opens sometime before afternoon rush on Friday, Nov. 30, the current westbound I-70 exit to Route K will close. At the same time the new ramp from East Terra to westbound I-70 will open. Drivers on T.R. Hughes will once again have access to westbound I-70 via the new ramp on East Terra. The changes are part of the I-70 Traffic Flow Improvement project. For more information on the project go to https://www.ofallon.mo.us/i-70-improvements-project.
The new overpass on Route 61 in St. Charles County is open. The overpass connects Route P and Peine Road to Route 61. Crews will close the existing access to and from Peine Road and Route 61 this evening. This is a permanent closure. This closure is necessary so crews can build the new southbound Route 61 exit to Route P/Peine Road. That exit, and the southbound entrance ramp, will open later this year.
All work is weather permitting and may be shifted due to inclement weather. The work is part of a project to improve safety on Route 61. In addition to the overpass that will serve Route P and Peine Road, the crossovers at Grothe Road and at both Granville Drives will be closed and merging and turning lanes will also be extended. The project is expected to be completed next summer. For more information on the project go to http://www.modot.org/stlouis/major_projects/Route61SafetyProject.htm.
Starting today, the T.R. Hughes ramp to westbound I-70 will be closed. The ramp will be relocated as part of the I-70 improvement project going on between T.R. Hughes and Route K. The new, relocated ramp will reopen later this year. Drivers can detour around the ramp closure by either taking the I-70 North Outer Road (East Terra) to Route K or taking Mexico to Route K. Please allow extra time while using these detour routes as the extra traffic could cause delays. For more information on the I-70 Improvement Project being done in conjunction with the City of O’Fallon, please visit the project website at https://www.ofallon.mo.us/i-70-improvements-project.
MoDOT is conducting roadwork affecting the interchange at I-70 and Route K, and the outer roads between T.R. Hughes Boulevard and Woodlawn Avenue through late 2018. For closures, detours and additional project information, visit the City of O'Fallon's website and the website below.
