There is exciting news for seniors in St. Charles County - several new senior living communities are slated for development in the City of St. Charles and the County’s 5th and 6th Council Districts.
“Cedarhurst of St. Charles” is one of those developments located across from Lindenwood University. This development will offer our much deserving seniors the opportunity to utilize the many educational, cultural and sporting events that Lindenwood offers, while the creation of internships at the facility and programs on issues affecting seniors will be available to educate Lindenwood students. New businesses, such as the new Schnuck’s store, in University Commons, will be a true asset to the residents of Cedarhurst. I am excited to see the post office project getting underway in this area, which will make access to this facility much easier and less congested than at its current location. The extension of West Clay, which was built in partnership between the City of St. Charles and St. Charles County thanks to the ½ cent Transportation Sales Tax, provides access to the new post office and was completed earlier this year. The current post office location will be utilized for much needed healthcare space for SSM.
Another project that is scheduled for the near future is “The Boulevards” at the corner of Truman and Ehlmann Road. The Boulevards will offer independent and assisted living along with memory care programs. Also, already under construction is Phase I of the “West Clay Senior Living Apartments,” which are independent living apartments situated in this convenient area that address the growing needs of our senior population. As this area of West Clay near I-70 and Zumbehl continues to grow, the City of St. Charles and St. Charles County are also working on plans to improve the roadway.
I know there is a great need for these types of developments. According to the Missouri Office of Administration, population projections indicate that the number of individuals 65 in St. Charles County will grow by over 55,000 between 2015 and 2030. I am extremely pleased to see several options under construction within and near my district to afford our seniors the ability to choose which community is right for them, and I hope these efforts continue into the future.
