St. Charles County, Missouri – Nearly one-half of all American households has a dog, and the Pet Adoption Center’s second annual Canine Carnival celebrates the tight bond that owners develop with their pets. Scheduled from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, July 7, this free, family friendly event features discounted adoption rates, games, giveaways, exhibits and other festivities to celebrate “Man’s Best Friend.”

“Dogs bring joy and laughter to our homes, promote exercise and social interaction, and positively impact the quality of life for their owners,” says Katie Willis, Director for St. Charles County’s Division of Humane Services and Pet Adoption Center. “With the Canine Carnival each year, we invite dog lovers to come out and enjoy the Dog Days of Summer.”

Canine Carnival activities include:

  • A special adoption rate of $30 for all dogs ages 2 and older — that’s half-off the regular fee!
  • Animal demonstrations and owner discussions to learn more about our four-legged friends.
  • Carnival games, including Dunk the Animal Control Officer, Bean Bag Toss and more.
  • Giveaways and raffles.
  • Treats available for purchase.

Located at 4850 Mid Rivers Mall Drive in St. Peters (across from St. Charles Community College), the Pet Adoption Center is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, with extended hours until 6:30 p.m. on Wednesdays.  As an added convenience, the facility is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays. To view pets now available for adoption, please visit www.sccmo.org/pets.

Dogs of all ages, sizes, colors and breeds are available for adoption through the facility. The standard $60 fee includes a health examination, initial vaccinations, spay or neuter, microchipping and other services that are not always included when adopting elsewhere. Last year, the Pet Adoption Center found loving homes for more than 2,000 animals (including about 900 dogs) through adoption. The adoption team strives to collect a history of the animal, to treat medical issues and to assess temperament, so these pets can make a smooth transition into their new homes. Staff help interested visitors select the best pet for their family, allow time for interaction before adoption, and provide suggestions on becoming a good pet parent.
