ST. CHARLES COUNTY, MISSOURI- The Office of Prosecuting Attorney Tim Lohmar announces that on December 28, 2018, Richard D. Emery, 46, of St. Charles, was charged with four counts of Murder 1st, three counts of Assault 1st, seven counts of Armed Criminal Action and one count Attempted Robbery 1st Degree. Charges arose after Emery shot and killed his girlfriend, her two children and his girlfriends’ mother. Emery opened fire on two St. Charles City police officers before escaping on foot. After escaping Emery attempted to carjack a vehicle and stabbed the owner. Emery’s carjacking was unsuccessful and proceeded on foot. Police were able to apprehend Emery when he entered a Quik Trip bleeding, from gunshot wounds, which promoted the clerk to alert police.
The officers were not injured during the gun exchange. The victim of the attempted car jacking is expected to make a full recovery.
Emery is currently in custody with the St. Charles County Department of Corrections and has no bond. His case is assigned to Division 10.
