St. Charles County, Missouri – The St. Charles County Parks and Recreation Department will usher in spring and baseball with the opening of a brand-new exhibit honoring homegrown Major League Baseball players at the County’s Heritage Museum, 1630 Heritage Landing near St. Charles. The exhibit, “Locally Grown: The Major League Baseball Players of St. Charles County” will be revealed at a special public reception from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, April 6. The free admission includes hot dogs, popcorn, and a chance to win a pair of St. Louis Cardinals baseball tickets!
This new exhibit features 21 professional players from St. Charles County, as well as a variety of their personal memorabilia, including former baseball pitcher Mark Buehrle’s Golden Glove Award, the ball from his perfect game, various game jerseys, caps, and more! Other players showcased at the exhibit are Doug Baird, Oscar Fuhr, Nick Cullop, Ham Schulte, Len Schulte, Ken Heintzelman, Jim Pendleton, Len Boehmer, Skip Guinn, Tom Heintzelman, Mike Henneman, Steve Colyer, Dennis Tankersley, Tommy Layne, Ross Detwiler, Tim Melville, Cody Asche, Nate Orf, Jacob Turner, and Brett Graves.
“Growing up in St. Charles County and playing sports in the local schools helped me shape my career and become the baseball player I am,” says Buehrle. “I’m excited to be able to contribute to this exhibit at the Heritage Museum and encourage kids to be active and play on local sports teams.”
The Heritage Museum is conveniently located near the Page Avenue Extension and is open to the public from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Wednesday – Saturday and noon to 5 p.m., Sunday. There is no charge to visit the museum’s interpretive displays which focus on local and state history. The new baseball exhibit is located on the second floor and is not accessible for wheelchairs.
