St. Charles County, Missouri – U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) research notes that the Women, Infants and Children Program (WIC) has played a vital role in improving the lives of mothers and their children. Studies confirm that WIC participation results in fewer low-birth weight babies, fewer infant deaths, more regular medical care and reduced health care costs.
“WIC gives growing families a healthy start,” says St. Charles County WIC Program Coordinator Eva Obirek. “It’s important that mothers and their children receive proper nutrition and guidance during these crucial developmental periods.”
The Division of Health Services provides WIC services in St. Charles County, offering supplemental food packages, nutrition education, breastfeeding support and health screening for eligible pregnant women, breastfeeding and postpartum women, infants, and children up to age 5. To allow more families the opportunity to participate in this beneficial program, income maximums for eligible participants have been expanded for the coming year and are effective through March 31, 2020.

“By expanding the income eligibility maximums, more families can receive the help they desire,” says Obirek. “Families that weren’t previously eligible to join WIC may be able to do so now because of these extensions.”
St. Charles County WIC is located at 1650 Boone’s Lick Road in St. Charles. Families interested in applying for the program must earn below income maximums and live in Missouri. Additionally, families that qualify for the supplemental nutrition assistance program (SNAP) or temporary assistance for needy families (TANF) automatically qualify.
