Make a Difference in Public Safety

Corrections Employee Team

From 911 dispatchers to officers and deputies, nurses to food service workers, we have opportunities available to join our critical public safety team. The St. Charles County Corrections, Emergency Communications, Police, and Sheriff’s departments are now hiring for a variety of positions. Corrections officers and emergency dispatchers are in highest demand.

The St. Charles County Department of Corrections operates one of the largest county-run jail facilities in the state with a staff of more than 160 employees. Correctional officers monitor the facility and are responsible for the processing, safety, security, and overall well-being of arrestees.

“They are vital to our operations and to the safety of our community,” says Dan Keen, Director of Corrections. “The positions also provide opportunities for advancement and build leadership and decision-making skills.”

The St. Charles County Department of Emergency Communications provides dispatching services to all fire and EMS units throughout the county and three law enforcement agencies: the St. Charles County Police Department, St. Charles County Sheriff’s Department, and St. Charles County Department of Corrections. Emergency dispatchers answer 911 calls and dispatch appropriate first responders to a scene.

“Dispatchers are the lifeline for those involved in an emergency, from those injured to the first responders on the scene,” says Jeff Smith, Director of Emergency Communications. “These jobs are demanding, rewarding and incredibly important.”

Benefits for these and all County Government positions include:

  • Medical insurance – The County pays up to 94 percent of the employee’s premium cost
  • Tuition reimbursement up to $4,000 annually
  • Missouri LAGERS pension plan paid for by County
  • 12 paid holidays per year
  •  PTO – 17 days (1-5 years); 22 days (5-9 years); 27 days (10+ years)

Along with these benefits, Corrections officers generally have 12-hour shifts/15-day months and receive a uniform allowance up to $630. Emergency Dispatchers have a three-day weekend every other weekend. Both positions have overtime opportunities available.
