St. Charles County, Missouri – This week, the St. Charles County Department of Community Health and the Environment announced its 24 Carrot Gold Food Safety Excellence Award winners for 2014. Presented by the Division of Environmental Health and Protection since 2007, the 24 Carrot Gold Awards recognize local food service providers that demonstrate excellence in food safety, sanitation and employee education.

The department selected the following as 24 Carrot Gold Food Safety Excellence Award winners for 2014:

  • AMERISTAR CASINO – LANDMARK BUFFET – 1260 South Main Street, St. Charles
  • BARATHAVEN ALZHEIMER’S SPECIAL CARE CENTER – 1030 BaratHaven Boulevard, Dardenne Prairie
  • DADDY RAY BURGERS – 8813 Veterans Memorial Parkway, O’Fallon
  • FRATELLI’S RISTORANTE – 2061 Zumbehl Road, St. Charles
  • LOS 3 COMPADRES MEXICAN RESTAURANT – 1052 Wolfrum Road, Weldon Spring
  • PANDA EXPRESS #2159 – 1985 Wentzville Parkway, Wentzville
  • PICKLEMAN’S GOURMET CAFÉ – 2041 Zumbehl Road, St. Charles
  • While all permitted establishments within the county meet requirements to protect the customers they serve, the 24 Carrot Gold Award winning establishments exceed standards. To be eligible for consideration, recipients cannot have any critical violations during the preceding 12 months and incur no more than six non-critical violations over the same period. In addition, at least 90 percent of the food managers working on-site at the establishment must have successfully completed a food safety certification class. The facility must also have a current St. Charles County Food Establishment Permit and be in good standing with the department.

The Department of Community Health and the Environment is responsible for the regular inspection of permanent and temporary food service establishments within St. Charles County, except those operating within the city limits of St. Peters (whose health department permits and inspects its own establishments). To help customers discover establishments’ food service ratings, the department displays the “Know the Score” report on its website and requires establishments to post their most recent inspections in a prominent location as a part of the Food Code.

Throughout the year, the Division of Environmental Health and Protection works with area businesses and organizations to promote healthy conditions in our community.
