Your Transportation Dollars in Motion

I-70

In December 2021, St. Charles County residents received an informational mailer from County government detailing the history of the County’s ½-cent Transportation Sales Tax. This tax was first enacted by voters in 1985, and the county has benefitted from more than $1 billion in public transportation improvements and has built or improved 1,110 miles of St. Charles County roads over the past 36 years.

Residents will be receiving in the mail this month an update to that mailer. Shortly after that mailer went out, the St. Charles County Council approved a three-year, $150 million Transportation Improvement Plan (TIP). The 2022-2024 TIP is funded by the County’s ½-cent Transportation Sales Tax and includes:

  • 19 projects within unincorporated areas of St. Charles County.
  • 52 projects within the municipalities of Cottleville, Dardenne Prairie, Lake Saint Louis, O’Fallon, St. Charles, St. Peters and Wentzville.

Approval of this plan represents a major investment in the county’s road and bridge infrastructure that would not be possible without a dedicated sales tax fund.

The Council put reauthorization of the ½-cent Transportation Sales Tax on the April 5, 2022 ballot (Prop R for Roads). This proposal will support:

  • Major projects for continued growth.
  • Safety improvement and congestion relief.
  • Leverage of state and federal funding.
  • Getting state projects shovel-ready.
  • Construction of new roads and repair and reconstruction of existing roads.
