St. Charles County, Missouri - On July 30, the East-West Gateway Council of Governments approved the 2015-2018 Transportation Improvement Program (TIP), which included several projects to improve safety and address growth in St. Charles County. The documents will become effective October 1, 2014, pending State and Federal approvals.

“St. Charles County residents value our transportation infrastructure and place importance on investing to make it better, so I would like to thank the East-West Gateway Board, as well as MoDOT and the Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission, for their support,” said East-West Gateway Board Member and St. Charles County Executive Steve Ehlmann.

Projects of note in the TIP include:

• I-70 at Fifth Street: Partial funding for interchange improvements at Fairgrounds Road and Fifth Street at I-70, including construction of new ramps from I-70 to Fairgrounds Road and other improvements needed to move traffic and make the busy interchange safer. Additional funding is to be determined.

• Missouri Route 94: Funding for continuation of ongoing safety improvements, including shoulder and curve improvements and pavement resurfacing.

• Missouri Route 61 and Peine Road: Funding for a joint project between St. Charles County, Wentzville and MoDOT to construct an interchange to improve safety between Missouri Route P and Peine Road off of Missouri Route 61. In January 2013, St. Charles County submitted an application to MoDOT for the funding partnership in response to recent severe accidents on the highway; the application was approved in March 2013.

• Gateway Green Light: Funding for the third phase of this program, which is a cooperative effort to improve the coordination of traffic signals throughout St. Charles County to reduce unnecessary delays, improve traffic flow and cut emissions that contribute to ozone pollution. The third phase includes installation of additional fiber optic cabling and road sensors. The phase also includes design of preset route plans to divert traffic onto local arterials if there is an accident on the major highways in the county.
