St. Charles County, Missouri – When cleaning garages, basements and backyard sheds, we often discover unwanted items like leftover automobile fluids, pesticides or chemicals that could harm the environment, pets and those we love if not properly treated. To help with the safe disposal of these potentially hazardous household items, St. Charles County’s Recycle Works Central facility (60 Triad South Drive in St. Charles) provides a solution.
The popular program will end for the year on Wednesday, Sept. 30. To take advantage of the opportunity before it closes, St. Charles County residents may bring their material (please note that latex paints are not accepted) to the facility from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Tuesdays through Fridays – with no appointment necessary. In addition, an end-of-the-season weekend collection will be open on Saturday, Sept. 26 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
There is a $15 fee for loads up to 50 pounds. For larger loads, the fee is the base $15, plus an additional $1 for each pound of material above 50. For a complete list of materials accepted at the facility, please visit http://www.sccmo.org/892/Recycle-Works---Central or call (636) 949-1800.
To ensure safe handling of materials, please follow these precautions when bringing hazardous waste to Recycle Works Central:
- Make certain the waste is properly packed, and do not mix it with other materials.
- Wherever possible, please leave the material in its original containers. Clearly label the content of items not in their original containers. Recycle Works Central will not accept mixed waste in plastic bags.
- Securely attach the lid to the container.
- Place the container inside a box that is lined with newspaper or other paper filler (this will help prevent spills during transport to the facility).
- Place the filled box in the trunk of your vehicle during transport.
- Upon arrival at Recycle Works Central, please remain in your vehicle until assisted.
