St. Charles County, MO – St. Charles County Executive Steve Ehlmann has appointed John Greifzu, County Director of Transportation, to serve on his Executive staff as Assistant Director of Administration – Intergovernmental Affairs. Greifzu will replace Don Boehmer, who will retire on July 4, 2016 after serving nine and a half years in the position. Greifzu will start on July 1.

“With John’s experience in building relationships with municipalities and partners in administering the county’s Transportation Sales Tax, he is a natural fit for this position. For over 10 years, his efforts to build partnerships throughout the county and state have improved the transportation infrastructure in our community,” said Ehlmann. “John is an innovative thinker and problem-solver with strong interpersonal and management skills, and I look forward to welcoming him to the Executive Office.”

Greifzu has served as the County’s Director of Transportation since March 2004, managing road projects and funding, including the county’s ½ cent Transportation Sales Tax, as well as planning future infrastructure improvements. Over his career, John has played a key role in arranging funding partnerships and planning for several major road projects, including Route 364 Phase III, Mid Rivers Mall Drive Interchange, and the current I-70 Fifth Street Improvements project. In addition, he developed and deployed the Gateway Green Light Program, a multi-jurisdictional effort to synchronize traffic signals on streets throughout the county, especially those that cross city limits, to reduce unnecessary delays, improve traffic flow and cut emissions that contribute to ozone pollution.

Prior to his position as Director of Transportation, Greifzu served as Director of the County’s Division of Neighborhood Improvement, where he facilitated extension of public facilities and services through the formation of Neighborhood Improvement Districts. Before his career with County Government, Greifzu served as Project Engineer for the City of Webster Groves Department of Public Works and as Senior Project Engineer for Environmental Resources Management. Greifzu holds a Bachelor of Science in Geological Engineering from the University of Missouri – Rolla and is a Professional Engineer and Registered Geologist.

Boehmer was appointed by Ehlmann in 2007. Prior to his appointment, he was vice president at E.T. Archer Corporation, handling business development, project administration and client services. Earlier, he led business development activities and directed sales and marketing personnel as the Director of Marketing for Krey Distributing and served as a liaison with state and local governments as Vice President of Station Casinos. In the late 1970’s and early 1980’s, Boehmer served as Chief Deputy Assessor for the county and served two terms as a County Commissioner.

“Don has served as a valuable advisor, leader and friend to all during his tenure in the Executive office. His understanding and knowledge of St. Charles County and its history has helped set direction for this office and the departments he supervised,” said Ehlmann. “He will definitely be missed, though it’s hard to envision Don stepping away entirely from public service.”
