St. Charles County, Missouri – St. Charles County today announced the purchase of the former New Melle Lakes Golf Course on Foristell Road near Highway Z. The 153-acre property connects to existing park properties that are being held in reserve for parkland by the St. Charles County Parks & Recreation Department.
“We are pleased to be able to secure this land for future park use,” said County Executive Steve Ehlmann. “It enables us to expand our county park system to provide more green space for outdoor activities, educational outreach and community events.”
Ehlmann said the County purchased the golf course at $15,000 an acre, which is market price.
Through the years, adjacent land either has been donated to, or purchased by, the County. This latest purchase brings the total County-owned land at that site to 395 acres. Specific plans and a timeline for development are still under review. The property has not been used as a golf course since 2011.
Formed in 1997 by the citizens of St. Charles County, the Parks Department operates 12 parks including The Historic Daniel Boone Home at Lindenwood Park, which was acquired in April of this year after a donation from Lindenwood University.
