ST. CHARLES COUNTY, MO - St. Charles County Department of Public Health Director Hope Woodson announced today that she has named Katie Willis as the Director of the Division of Humane Services. In this position, Willis will oversee operations of the County’s Pet Adoption Center and Animal Control officers.
A graduate of Francis Howell High School and a life-long St. Charles County resident, Willis has worked with the Division of Humane Services since 2000. After graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from the University of Missouri-Columbia, she joined St. Charles County as its Veterinary Technician, a position she held until this promotion to director. Through additional studies, she became fully registered as a veterinary technician in the State of Missouri in 2012.
“I enjoy helping people and their animals,” Willis said. “The great staff in the Division of Humane Services has implemented a number of programs — including the flourishing pet foster program, a low-cost spay/neuter service and a food pantry for pets in need — that have enhanced the lives of pets and their owners in St. Charles County. I am honored to have this opportunity to continue these programs and to lead our staff in more ways to help the people and animals within this area.”
In addition to working to enhance the lives of animals and learning about their behaviors, Willis and her husband enjoy being active in the community. She is a Stephens Minister for Church of the Shepherd and serves in the Program Advisory Group for United Methodist Women.
Since opening in 1999, the St. Charles County’s Pet Adoption Center has placed more than 35,000 animals in loving homes. Adopting a pet through the Division of Humane Services offers an outstanding value, as the $60 adoption fee includes a thorough health examination, initial vaccinations, spay or neuter service, microchipping and owner education.
