St. Charles County, Missouri – The St. Charles County Assessor will mail the 2017 Notices Of Real Estate Assessment starting the third week of April. State law requires the Assessor to revalue all real property in the county as of January 1 of every odd-numbered year. The valuation notices reflect the change in value since Jan. 1, 2015. The 2017 assessment notices are designed to be easier to read and include information on property tax relief, the appeal process, and answers to frequently asked questions.
Notices for the Washington, Wentzville, and St. Charles School Districts are scheduled to be mailed on or near April 14. The Fort Zumwalt and Orchard Farm School District notices are scheduled to be mailed on or near April 21, and the Francis Howell School District notices are scheduled to be mailed on or near April 28. Taxpayers have 10 days from the mailed date on the notice to schedule an informal hearing. To schedule a hearing, taxpayers can call the Assessor’s Office at 636-949-7431 or 1-800-822-4012, ext. 7431, between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Scheduled informal hearings will be conducted Monday through Thursday at the County Administration Building, 201 N. Second St. in St. Charles.
The St. Charles County Assessor is responsible for establishing the fair market value of all property within St. Charles County. This assures the tax burden is distributed fairly among those responsible for payment. The taxing authorities, which include school, city and fire districts, will establish the tax rate based on the budgetary requirements needed to fund services in their jurisdiction.
