St. Charles County, Missouri — TLD Concepts, Inc., a medical equipment manufacturer, has been recognized by the St. Charles County Workforce Development Board for its entrepreneurial success and use of the OJT “On the Job Training” program to grow its staff.

Founded in 1995 as a woman-owned business by a veteran with a military service-related disability, St. Charles-based TLD Concepts is now a national leader in designing, prototyping and producing patented transportable medical equipment.

“We started our company in a small, 1,500-square-foot space on Highway 94 in 1995, and our first contract was with Laser Vision Center for $75,000,” says Lou Lenkman, President of TLD Concepts, Inc. Today, the company holds seven patents, expects to have 2017 revenues of about $1.8 million, and counts Samsung among its global customers.

As a small business with limited resources, TLD turned to the Missouri Job Center of St. Charles County and their OJT program to help them find and train six new employees.  Funded by federal and state grants, the OJT program provides a reimbursement to qualifying companies of up to 50 percent for a new employee’s wages during their training period, which can last up to six months. Participating companies must hire an unemployed, underemployed or inexperienced worker who needs specialized training to do their new job.

“The OJT program really helped us out as a small business because there is no way a new employee will know all the things we need them to know to work successfully and productively at TLD,” Lenkman says.

For more information about the OJT program and other services to help connect and serve workers and companies, contact the St. Charles County Department of Workforce & Business Development at 636-255-6060, or visit http://www.sccmo.org/Workforce.
