3. Tax Bills for 2022 Coming SoonReal estate and personal property tax bills for 2022 will be posted online and mailed by Michelle D. McBride, St. Charles County Collector of Revenue, later this month. As County Executive Steve Ehlmann related in last month’s Connection, because of the impact of vehicle value inflation arising from vehicle shortages, most taxpayers will notice a sizable increase in their personal property tax bill. While St. Charles County removed its portion of the increase on your tax bill by voluntarily lowering the County’s Road & Bridge and 911 Dispatch & Alarm tax rates, the other taxing jurisdictions in the county will still see increased revenues because they did not adjust their tax rates. County government has no part in setting other jurisdiction tax rates. They are set individually by all the other taxing jurisdictions. Overall, those other taxing jurisdictions will see a new revenue windfall of approximately $23 million from residents’ 2022 personal property tax bills. Read more about this issue.

4. Help Keep St. Charles County's Water Clean Since the passage of the Clean Water Act 50 years ago, St. Charles County has sought to comply with stormwater regulations and maintain its Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) Stormwater Permit through the management and public education of water quality. The St. Charles County Community Development Department has spearheaded this effort, producing discharge detection efforts, outreach programs, and educational resources like the Stream Care Guide. While the department has trained its staff in the detection and elimination of potential hazards to stormwater in the county, effective change happens at the individual level, where residents remain aware of these efforts and proactively engage in solutions. 5. A Salute to Our VeteransSt. Charles County salutes veterans and active military serving our country. As part of the County’s commitment to honoring their service, the St. Charles County Veterans Best Practices Working Group (VBPWG) was formed in 2014. The VBPWG is a group of appointed County employees who work to encourage businesses to develop veteran-friendly employment practices, including within St. Charles County Government, and to inform veterans seeking employment about opportunities and benefits. Over the years, the group has hosted a flag collection for worn or damaged American flags, and has sponsored care package drives for troops overseas, among other service activities. Thank you to all our veterans, including the more than 70 employee veterans who work in County Government. Learn more about the VBPWG.

A Message from the County ExecutiveYou may remember hearing about the St. Peters man who was trapped in his truck during the flooding this summer. He credited, among other first responders, St. Charles County Emergency Dispatcher Michael Buckmore for helping save his life. Michael stayed on the phone with the man for 45 minutes until paramedics were able to reach him. “It’s all part of the job,” Michael told a reporter who covered the two meeting in person. ...MORE

Joe Brazil, District 2In the last decade, St. Charles County has seen explosive growth with many residents leaving St. Louis County and other urban areas for a more quiet and safe way of life. Just in the last two years, St. Charles County has had an explosion of apartments, over a 300% increase. Currently there are approximately 33 apartment complexes that take advantage of the federal voucher system for HUD housing. Local leaders will say we need housing for younger people and lower income workers. These apartments are approved by municipal city council members and only one has been approved by St. Charles County Council. …MORE
