1. Meet Your Newly Elected Officials

Family and friends gathered Dec. 29 to attend the swearing-in ceremony of St. Charles County’s newly elected and re-elected officials. Chief Judge for the United States Eastern District of Missouri Stephen R. Clark presided over the Oath of Office ceremony.
Newly elected office holders include County Council members Matt Swanson, District 1; and Tim Baker, District 7; and Associate Circuit 11 Judges Trisha McCulloch, Division 6; Jeffery Sandcork, Division 9; Dennis Chassaniol, Division 10; and Dwayne Johnson, Division 11. Travis Welge, Assessor-elect, will take office Sept. 1.

Those re-elected to office for an additional term are Steve Ehlmann, County Executive; County Council members Mike Elam, District 3 and Terry Hollander, District 5; Scott Lewis, Sheriff; Tim Lohmar, Prosecuting Attorney; Mary Dempsey, Recorder of Deeds; Kurt Bahr, Director of Elections; Michelle McBride, Collector of Revenue; and Associate Circuit 11 Judges Deborah Alessi, Division 2; Erin Burlison, Division 8; and Matthew Thornhill, Division 12.

2. Transportation Improvement Plan Approved for 2023-2025

The St. Charles County Council recently approved the 2023-2025 Transportation Improvement Plan (TIP), which includes projects focused on reducing congestion and increasing safety on roadways throughout the county. Project highlights include reconstruction work on Hopewell Road and North Second Street, and David Hoekel Parkway Phase 5 design and right-of-way construction. TIP projects are funded with the County’s voter-approved ½-cent Transportation Sales Tax. Before going to the Council, the TIP is approved by the County Road Board, which is charged with administering the plan. View the TIP and learn more.

4. Emergency Weather Response Program in Effect This Winter

When winter weather temperatures fall below 20 degrees Fahrenheit, the Emergency Weather Response program activates to aid those in need of a warm place to spend the night in St. Charles, Lincoln and Warren counties. The program is coordinated by a group of local agencies, including churches, nonprofits, government and others. If an individual needs assistance on a day the program is activated, they can call 636-395-0492 to learn more about accommodations. Follow the St. Charles County Department of Public Health on Facebook for updates about activation.

5. Personal Property Assessments To Be Mailed in January

The Assessor’s Office will mail 2023 personal property assessment forms later this month. These assessments track what residents owned as of Jan. 1 of this year, and are used to determine what appears on personal property tax bills in December. Assessments are due March 1. Individual personal property owners have the option to file online after receiving their form in the mail. For questions, contact ext. 7420 or persprop@sccmo.org.

  • Recycle Natural Christmas Trees with Recycle Works
    The St. Charles County Department of Public Health provides drop-off sites for natural Christmas trees at its Recycle Works locations in St. Charles and Wentzville through Jan. 7. Recycled evergreens can serve as fish habitats in lakes, chipped wood paths along natural surface walking trails, mulch and more. Learn more.

  • St. Charles County Highway Department Snow Plow Strategy: The County Highway Department is committed to keeping county roads safe and clear in wintry weather. Despite staffing shortages, the Highway Department has devised a prioritized strategy to treat and clear covered roads during snow and ice events. 

  • Santa Cops Recap: More than 1,000 gifts were donated to Santa Cops, the St. Charles County Police Department’s holiday giving program. These gifts will be distributed to local families with children up to age 15 who are experiencing financial hardships.

  • Live Meeting Broadcasts: Watch public meetings of the County Council and Planning & Zoning Commission live on YouTube.
