Know before you fly.

Drones Allowed at YAP with Prior Permission

Now, you can fly your unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), commonly known as a drone, recreationally at the Youth Activity Park (YAP) in Dardenne Prairie. While this is the only area of our regional park system where drones are allowed, you can launch and fly from the YAP parking lot.

But before heading out to the park with your UAV, the person who will be doing the flying first must obtain permission from the St. Charles County Parks and Recreation Department. To do so, just fill out and submit an Application for Special Authorization and wait to receive written permission. The approval letter must be in the flyer’s name and must be in their possession when flying.

And remember, there are safety guidelines that are enforced by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). Drone users must be aware of these rules before they start buzzing around in the sky. You can find the guidelines by visiting https://www.faa.gov/uas/getting_started/fly_for_fun/.

For more information call 636-949-7535. The Youth Activity Park is located at 7801 Highway N. in Dardenne Prairie.
