It's camping season in St. Charles County Parks!

Best Camping Around!

It’s camping season in St. Charles County Parks! With 43 tent camping sites and six camping cabins at Klondike Park near Augusta, and a large group camping area at Indian Camp Creek Park near Wentzville, we've become a premier camping destination for bicyclists traveling on the Katy Trail, families, scouts and organizations throughout the year.

Our camp sites are $10 per night and accommodate two tents and five guests; camping cabins are $65 per night; and our group camping site is $75 per night for up to 100 guests with a two night minimum.

Just opened this season: Reserve one of our five new scenic tent camping sites situated on the bluff overlooking Klondike Park. Once you've camped in the heart of Missouri's wine country, you'll want to come back every year!

To make a camping reservation for the group camping area, call the parks department at 636-949-7535. To book a camp site or camping cabin at Klondike Park, visit us online at http://bit.ly/2ImIYqK or call the department.

Congratulations to St. Charles County Park Ranger for receiving a Life Saver Award!
Park Ranger Honored
Congratulations to St. Charles County Park Ranger John (Trey) Bugh for receiving a Life Saver Award for his extraordinary service and dedication to the department!
This honor comes after Bugh saved the life of a guest in cardiac arrest in the park.

When the emergency call came out, Bugh was minutes away and the first to arrive on the scene at the
Quail Ridge Lodge. When he entered the facility, he quickly sprang into action, relieving the person who was administering Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) to a women. After retrieving the Automated External Defibrillator (AED) from the lodge, Bugh sent a shock to the woman's heart, causing it to beat in a normal rhythm again. Bugh's quick response time and specialized training saved the women's life.

Not only are all St. Charles County Park Rangers re-certified every two years in the use of CPR and AED, they also receive annual training in tactical communications, firearms proficiency, opioid strategy, use of force and understanding mental health issues.

Our thanks to Ranger John Bugh and all our rangers who work diligenty and purposefully every day to ensure that our parks visitors have a safe and enjoyable experience.

Certified Nature Classroom = FUN!

If you haven't had the opportunity to visit our Certified Nature Explore Classroom (NEC) at Towne Park near Wentzville, put it on your list of 'must do's' this summer.  This one-of-a-kind nature play place has become a popular destination for thousands of children, families, educators, and scouting organizations from across the region, since it opened in 2012.

Certified by the Arbor Day Foundation and Dimensions Educational Research Foundation for the past six years, this magical play place features 11 learning stations that support skill development in children by reconnecting them with the outdoors. The stations include, a Gathering Area, Music and Movement Area, Open Play Area, Messy Materials Area, Sand Play Area, Nature Art Area, Wildflower Area, Building Area, Balance Area, Water Area and new this year, a Re-Tire Area.

The NEC is open every day, from 7 a.m. to half-hour after sunset. Visit the NEC on your own, or register your school, scouts, church or homeschool group for an educational outreach program in the park. Children ages 4–12 discover nature and history in new and exciting ways when they participate in a group field trip at Towne Park.

For more information about scheduling an educational outreach program at Towne Park, visit http://www.sccmo.org/1410/Educational-Outreach or call us at 636-949-7535.

Every Friday Night weather permitting, view the stars and constellations in the sky at Broemmelsiek Park's Astronomy Viewing Area.

View Mars, Meteors and Stars

Mark your calendar! Two mesmerizing events in the night sky will be visible from our Astronomy Viewing
Area at Broemmelsiek Park near Defiance this
summer—the Opposition of Mars on July 28–Aug. 13
and Perseid Meteor Showers on Aug. 12–13.

During Opposition of Mars, the Earth will pass 35.8 million miles away from Mars, between the sun and the red planet. Mars viewing is best several hours after sunset when the heat of the day has completely radiated off.

The annual Perseid Meteor Showers will peak on the night of Aug. 12 and early morning
hours of Aug.13. A new moon creates dark skies and excellent conditions to see these shooting stars at the park.

In addition to these summer events, the Astronomical Society of Eastern Missouri (ASEM) hosts Friday Night Public Stargazing at Broemmelsiek Park. Weather permitting, come out to view the stars and constellations in the night sky. Advance registration advised for groups of 10 or more.

For more information about these astronomical events, visit ASEM online at asemonline.org/ or email outreach@asemonline.org.
