How do I request a new stop sign to be installed in my neighborhood?
Any request for a new stop sign, no parking area, or other traffic regulation must be submitted to the County Highway Department, along with a petition that includes the signatures of 15 residents living in the area that support the requested regulation. Once that petition is received, it is held on file in the Highway Department office until public hearings before the County Council can be scheduled (usually 2-3 times a year, depending on the number of requests received). Following the public hearings, each request is reviewed by the Highway Department, and a recommendation is made to the County Council. The Council then decides on whether the requested regulation should be approved.
